Job Opportunity: Urban Resilience Governance Team Lead

Chemonics seeks an Urban Resilience Governance Team Lead for the anticipated USAID-funded Environment New Adaptation Activity. The five-year, $25 million project aims to improve urban climate and disaster resilience in Indonesia.

Responsibilities:

  • Build Provincial and District-level Government Capacity:
    • Conduct risk assessments and integrate disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation into planning and budgeting.
  • Assess Binding Constraints:
    • Identify regulatory and financial needs inhibiting local action and investments.
  • Introduce Tools and Approaches:
    • Systematically consider climate and disaster risk in planning, permitting, and investment decisions.
  • Enhance Communication and Coordination:
    • Foster collaboration between national, provincial, and local units to integrate climate risk management across sectors.
  • Strengthen Government Institutions:
    • Build capacity of key government institutions to integrate climate adaptation into planning and disaster risk reduction activities.
  • Improve Institutional Support and Coordination:
    • Provide technical assistance and enhance coordination among key government institutions.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in public policy, government, climate change, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum seven years of professional experience in international development.
  • Strong capabilities supporting sub-national core development plans and investments.
  • Experience conducting climate risk assessments, particularly in urban environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership in urban climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
  • Experience working with the government of Indonesia at various levels.
  • Strong ability to engage constructively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
  • English and Indonesian language fluency required.
